What is Phi Iota Alpha?

Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the oldest existing Latino fraternity, established on December 26, 1931, with roots extending back to the first Latin American student organization founded in the United States in 1898. Grounded in the ideals of Pan-Americanism, Phi Iota Alpha brings together men committed to the advancement of the Latino community and the preservation of Latin American culture. Through intellectual development, cultural awareness, and service, the fraternity fosters men who carry its values, responsibilities, and bonds of brotherhood throughout their lives.

What are the chapter’s purpose and core values?

The Nu Chapter of Phi Iota Alpha, established in Spring 1996 at Boston University, is a citywide chapter representing brothers from Boston University, Northeastern University, and historically Boston College. Our purpose is to create a strong and connected brotherhood across the Greater Boston area where members can support one another, build lasting relationships, and grow throughout their collegiate and professional journeys.

Our chapter is guided by Phi Iota Alpha’s core values of Strength, Integrity, and Friendship. These values shape how we hold one another accountable, represent our fraternity, and build genuine relationships with our brothers and the communities around us.  The Nu chapter of Phi Iota Alpha is big on supporting the greater Boston community through service initiatives and promoting Pan-Americanism. As a citywide chapter, we also value collaboration, authenticity, and creating a sense of belonging among brothers from different campuses, backgrounds, and experiences.
